    Play Styles/Skill Trees

    In regards to your question, I'm going to get into some back story. We've actually changed the culture, elements, and magic system from what was revealed before, as Llama hinted at in devblog 74. I'm not sure how much I want to reveal yet, but essentially the magic system was changed to behave according to specific, concrete rules rather then handwaving and cinematic avatarish blasts of fire or earth, which is a pretty lame system of magic for an MMO. We wanted a system that was grounded in reality and laws of physics, but still had a magical edge to it. Magic now involves using the four elemental forces that make up everything in our game universe to manipulate the world around you in one of three ways: Manipulation of substances: this branch of magic involves affecting "physical things", such as transmuting metal, healing living tissue, manipulating plant growth, and yes, the occasional cinematic blast of fire. Manipulation of forces: this branch of magic involves using the physical forces that govern our world such as gravity, friction, pressure, magnetism, etc, to affect the world around you, rather than directly manipulating substances. Manipulation of one's body: while the other two branches focus on changing the world around you, this branch of magic focuses on changing or augmenting the attributes of one's own body, examples might be increasing strength or speed, as well as stuff like hearing, vision, etc. If you notice, giving our magic rules like this makes things make sense not only lore-wise but also in game! The new magic system allows for an almost infinite variety of skills that can use one or multiple branches of magic, as well as several different ways of accomplishing the same thing, creating several styleistic ways of using magic. A skill to root an enemy could be plant growth (physical substances) or simply an increase of friction so much they cannot move (forces). So, to answer your question on playstyle, even if you decide to narrow your focus extremely to one element, there are multiple ways of doing the same thing, whether it be damage, healing, mobility, etc. This means there is no specific playstyle for elements or branches of magic. You are free to choose entirely by the skills you decide to learn. The combination of being able to focus on element or branches of magic gives an enormous amount of choices, assuming we make enough skills of course. I suspect people will focus on the common archetypes of MMOs and RPGs though, stuff like healers, tanks, damage dealers, and less so on "multiclassing".

    Max level

    The current plan is to have max character and skill level be 100, which will last plenty long. If we get to the point where a large amount of players reach max level, we'll probably release new high level content that raises the cap, whether it just be raising it to something like 120 or a system like rebirth but without its problems.

    Hello! I think I am extremely well qualified to join your guild. In 7th grade, I took an SAT test without preparing for it at all, it was spur-of-the-moment, I knew about it about an hour ahead of time and didn't do any research or anything. I scored higher on it than the average person using it to apply for college in my area. An IQ test has shown me to be in the 99.9th percentile for IQ. This is the highest result the test I was given reaches; anything further and they'd consider it to be within the margin of error for that test. My mother's boyfriend of 8 years is an aerospace engineer who graduated Virginia Tech. At the age of 15, I understand physics better than him, and I owe very little of it to him, as he would rarely give me a decent explanation of anything, just tell me that my ideas were wrong and become aggravated with me for not quite understanding thermodynamics. He's not particularly successful as an engineer, but I've met lots of other engineers who aren't as good as me at physics, so I'm guessing that's not just a result of him being bad at it. I'm also pretty good at engineering. I don't have a degree, and other than physics I don't have a better understanding of any aspect of engineering than any actual engineer, but I have lots of ingenuity for inventing new things. For example, I independently invented regenerative brakes before finding out what they were, and I was only seven or eight years old when I started inventing wireless electricity solutions (my first idea being to use a powerful infrared laser to transmit energy; admittedly not the best plan). I have independently thought of basically every branch of philosophy I've come across. Every question of existentialism which I've seen discussed in SMBC or xkcd or Reddit or anywhere else, the thoughts haven't been new to me. Philosophy has pretty much gotten trivial for me; I've considered taking a philosophy course just to see how easy it is. Psychology, I actually understand better than people with degrees. Unlike engineering, there's no aspect of psychology which I don't have a very good understanding of. I can debunk many of even Sigmund Freud's theories. I'm a good enough writer that I'm writing a book and so far everybody who's read any of it has said it was really good and plausible to expect to have published. And that's not just, like, me and family members, that counts strangers on the Internet. I've heard zero negative appraisal of it so far; people have critiqued it, but not insulted it. I don't know if that will suffice as evidence that I'm intelligent. I'm done with it, though, because I'd rather defend my maturity, since it's what you've spent the most time attacking. The following are some examples of my morals and ethical code. I believe firmly that everybody deserves a future. If we were to capture Hitler at the end of WWII, I would be against executing him. In fact, if we had any way of rehabilitating him and knowing that he wasn't just faking it, I'd even support the concept of letting him go free. This is essentially because I think that whoever you are in the present is a separate entity from who you were in the past and who you are in the future, and while your present self should take responsibility for your past self's actions, it shouldn't be punished for them simply for the sake of punishment, especially if the present self regrets the actions of the past self and feels genuine guilt about them. I don't believe in judgement of people based on their personal choices as long as those personal choices aren't harming others. I don't have any issue with any type of sexuality whatsoever (short of physically acting out necrophilia, pedophilia, or other acts which have a harmful affect on others - but I don't care what a person's fantasies consist of, as long as they recognize the difference between reality and fiction and can separate them). I don't have any issue with anybody over what type of music they listen to, or clothes they wear, etc. I know that's not really an impressive moral, but it's unfortunately rare; a great many people, especially those my age, are judgmental about these things. I love everyone, even people I hate. I wish my worst enemies good fortune and happiness. Rick Perry is a vile, piece of pellet human being, deserving of zero respect, but I wish for him to change for the better and live the best life possible. I wish this for everyone. I'm pretty much a pacifist. I've taken a broken nose without fighting back or seeking retribution, because the guy stopped punching after that. The only time I'll fight back is if 1) the person attacking me shows no signs of stopping and 2) if I don't attack, I'll come out worse than the other person will if I do. In other words, if fighting someone is going to end up being more harmful to them than just letting them go will be to me, I don't fight back. I've therefore never had a reason to fight back against anyone in anything serious, because my ability to take pain has so far made it so that I'm never in a situation where I'll be worse off after a fight. If I'm not going to get any hospitalizing injuries, I really don't care. The only exception is if someone is going after my life. Even then, I'll do the minimum amount of harm to them that I possibly can in protecting myself. If someone points a gun at me and I can get out of it without harming them, I'd prefer to do that over killing them. I consider myself a feminist. I don't believe in enforced or uniform gender roles; they may happen naturally, but they should never be coerced into happening unnaturally. As in, the societal pressure for gender roles should really go, even if it'll turn out that the majority of relationships continue operating the same way of their own accord. I treat women with the same outlook I treat men, and never participate in the old Reddit "women are crazy" circlejerk, because there are multiple women out there and each have different personalities just like there are multiple men out there and each with different personalities. I don't think you do much of anything except scare off the awesome women out there by going on and on about the ones who aren't awesome. That doesn't mean I look for places to victimize women, I just don't believe it's fair to make generalizations such as the one about women acting like everything's OK when it's really not (and that's a particularly harsh example, because all humans do that). I'm kind of tired of citing these examples and I'm guessing you're getting tired of reading them, if you've even made it this far. In closing, the people who know me in real life all respect me, as do a great many people in the Reddit brony community, where I spend most of my time and where I'm pretty known for being helpful around the community. A lot of people in my segment of the community are depressed or going through hard times, and I spend a lot of time giving advice and support to people there. Yesterday someone quoted a case of me doing this in a post asking everyone what their favorite motivational/inspirational quote was, and that comment was second to the top, so I guess other people agreed (though, granted, it was a pretty low-traffic post, only about a dozen competing comments). And, uh, I'm a pretty good moderator.

    Drop Qualifications

    Regardless of the FO system, here are a few ways we may implement it in WoT. Qualifying for a drop: 1) To qualify for loot on a mob you need to be in the same chunk (loaded portion of the map) as the mob that was killed and in the same party. The exception is in instances like dungeons, where the entire dungeon counts for qualification, not just the loaded chunk. 2) There may be certain mobs we implement that are exceptions like world bosses, where if anyone participates in the fight (heals/buffs someone who is in the fight or hits the boss any amount at all), everyone qualifies for loot as long as 1) is also true. These would use Individual loot below. Loot threshholds: The following methods of loot distribution are subject to thresholds. For example, if you choose to set the threshold to Legendary items, all items below legendary would use free for all loot and all the items above legendary would use the loot method that you chose (e.g split loot). Loot distribution: We may use one or several of the following possible loot distribution methods ingame. If we choose multiple options, the party leader will decide which method of loot is used by his/her party. 1) Free for all, whoever loots the mob first gets all the loot. 2) Individual loot, where everyone rolls individually for a chance of loot and loot is not split at all, everyone's chance to get a drop is independent of anyone else. This was how it worked in FO to the best of my knowledge. 3) Split loot, If the boss drops loot, it is a finite amount which is split by the party. Everyone rolls or declines to roll on the pieces of loot that drop from the boss, on a per piece of loot basis. 4) Lootmaster, where all the loot goes to one person who can then distribute it as they choose (usually party leader). This would work well for guilds for example. 5) Pseudo split loot (needs a better name), if the boss drops loot, it is a finite amount which is split by the party. It differs from split loot in that if you end up winning a roll on a piece of loot, your party members chance to win a roll increases while yours stays the same. Essentially people who get loot have less chance to get more than people who haven't.

    On average, I'd say most multiplayer online games use from anywhere to 50-150 kb/sec, which is about 180-540 mb/hr. Since our game is probably less intensive than many high end mmos I would put it at the lower end of that scale. Through stuff like caching it can be farther reduced, so that if you stay only in one area it may use even less, especially if you are doing non intensive things like chatting as opposed to combat. We don't have any idea for mobile controls yet as we are still focused on developing the main game which takes priority. As for kiting I'd imagine you can kite decently with ranged characters especially if you use debuffing abilities that slow or stun your enemy. Melee would probably be close to impossible though, as opposed to FO.

    Player Market Name

    Not refuting your point, just adding some extra info. Runescape actually has two main markets. Their "Grand Exchange" has two locations, One is in a high level city/hub (Priffdinas), and the other one is the one you are thinking of, in Varrock. Also Runescape has a lot more servers (~150) to spread players out than we plan on hosting, so their two central locations works fairly well even with a large playerbase. Additionally, everyone has a free no cooldown teleport from anywhere in the world to the two locations their market is at, so it's more easily accessible. If in LlamaQuest for example we didn't have such easy teleport functionality (likely), it may make more sense to have multiple market locations simply for convenience. Of course the main hub town probably has much more to offer than just the global marketplace, so players will tend to congregate there anyway, but you could see the places where there would be markets as mini hubs for quest areas, where people questing all around that area would go to trade.

    Since others already covered the topic of reputation points I'd like to talk to you about your actual reputation, since you seem to want to earn a good one despite your actions thus far. If you don't want people to down vote you maybe you should consider being polite rather than instantly insulting half the community in every thread you post in. People don't like being insulted. I'll be honest, some of your suggestions are good ideas but the way you present them is incredibly abrasive. You should take some time to reword your posts in a way that is less offensive to people. Perhaps they would treat you better then. The only way to get a good reputation is to earn it, and insulting everyone you meet is not the way to do it. Here are some suggestions to improve the quality of your posts, if you truly do want to earn a good reputation: Don't use capslock statements, especially in combination with bold. It makes you look like you are yelling at everything and seems childish. Bold is plenty fine if you want to emphasize something, capslock is plain unnecessary. Don't use the word "snoop". I understand you are emphasizing statements, but you use the word far too much. It also characterizes you in a slightly childish way. It's not against the rules to use it, but it seems like a substitute for a swear and people don't like someone who responds with a swear every other word when they ask a polite question. Don't insult people, plain and simple. I doubt you would enjoy interacting with someone that insulted you half the time you spoke to them, and neither does anyone here. To that end, avoid using words like "brats", " butt snoops", "assholes", "idiotic children", etc. If you are still unsure if something is offensive or not, I can provide a detailed analysis of some of the posts you made that come across as offensive. Do explain your reasoning if you disagree with something. Refrain from making statements such as "i dont like the graphics, they look 8 day old moldy diarrhea", which are not only quite rude (especially in this case as someone put a lot of hard work into the art), they are entirely nonconstructive and useless. How are you supposed to improve anything from feedback like that? Instead, say something like "I personally dislike the graphics, they seem overly complex and less smooth than FO graphics. I prefer simplicity." This type of statement shows you disagree in a polite way, and gives options for improvement or compromise. People tend to take these types of statements much better.

    I can't speak for others but as a personal preference I vastly prefer the 1x font over 2x. The 2x font is too pixely in my opinion, making the 1x more visually appealing even though its not a consistent pixel size.

    Weapon Damage Types

    Currently we have no plans for an ammo system although there are visual arrows, because it inherently disadvantages ranged compared to other combat types like magic or melee. If there were viable tradeoffs for each type we might consider it, something like magic requires spell components and melee degrades 3x faster, but we won't add a disadvantage to one combat type just like that without adding stuff to the other combat types to balance them.

    I had toyed with the idea of weapon damage types in the past but deemed it to complicated for the amount of benefit it provides, so while it's not completely ruled out it's unlikely for now. Certainly an interesting idea though.
